I recently visited Pioneer gun shop, there were about 6 ppl. in the store and 1 salesperson. I don't go to places like gun shops if I'm in a hurry so I browsed around, the prices were marked and by my turn I picked out the ones I was intrested in. After a few questions I went home and researched the gun online and next week I'm going to Pioneer to buy that gun.
Just visited Pioneer Gun Shop today with a few college buddies. We saw the bad reviews online and stopped in to see how bad it really was and were quite surprised. It wasn't near as bad as the reviews say on Yahoo! Met the owner who's a Vietnam vet. He and his uncle (a Korea vet) both run the shop. The guys are a little rough around the edges but were not rude in the slightest when we stopped in. The gun selection here is the best we've seen in the Altoona area, especially if you're in the market for used guns. If nothing else, it's a least worth a shot to stop in and look around.
I drove an hour and a half to visit Pioneer Gun Shop in Altoona only to be very disappointed and very mad. The owner was not the kind of person that one usually finds running a gun shop, he was nasty and had no time to wait on me even after I told him that we drove a long way to visit his place of business. He said he was too busy mounting scopes to take care of me, yet his door was open as was the shop. In thirty five years of doing business with gun shops this experience at Pioneer was by far the worst and it amazes me that any business owner would treat a customer as I was at Pioneer.
His loss, I found a few other shops in the area and purchased three old rimfire rifles from them.
I would not recommend Pioneer to anyone and I will never again set foot in this shop again.
