We had given up on dining in Franklin county, typicaly traveling to harrisburg for a pleasurable dining experience. We were asked to go out for dinner with friends to Mercersburg (a small town close to the maryland border). Regretfully we accepted. I am not a beer drinker, and upon arriving at Flannerys restaurant and seeing what appeared to be a bar/tavern enviroment I was ready for some cheap unassuming glass of wine and overpriced poorly prepared bar food. This was not the case. Our server, a young man was very pleasant and helpful, he suggested beverages for us and I accepted his suggestion af a Napa valley, Bordeaux blend..and Wow! What a fabulous glass of wine! We ordered appetizers; seared shrimp and crusty bread, beef tenderloin tips, and fresh figs with Italian ham and Gorgonzola. If this was any indicator of the quality of this restaurant, I was beginning to feel very comfortable in my new favorite digs. We ordered entrees, my wife choosing fresh Wahoo? I ordered the prime strip steak with crab and bearnaise. This was hands down the best dining experience that we have had since moving to Pa. The food was perfectly executed, the restaurant was very busy, and all of our food arrived at the table correct, hot, and quite frankly as close to perfect as I could imagine. Dessert was equally fabulous, did someone say bread pudding? We will return often, with friends, what a great place.
Let's get one thing straight, although this place has been coined a "beer Bar" mainly because it has 20 draft selections; this tavern is a world class restaurant. My wife and anouther couple dined here last wednesday night, our second time , there first. I told them nothing of the place other than we are taking you out for dinner. My children and our friends attend school in Mercersburg, we drive 75 minutes one way to get here. That being said I would drive here at least once a month to dine even if I had no other reason.
We eat out often, at least 3 times a week in the greater D.C. area, and there is no better restaurant on our radar than this quaint little Irish pub. Do not let that fool you, there is very little Irish about this place other than the Guinness.
The cuisine is stellar, on our visit my wife had Kobe beef short ribs with cracked pepper spatzel, and roasted heirloom carrots, which was as good as anything that I have ever had dining out(and I managed Hyatt properties for 25 years). I was luky enough to get the last order of Kona coffe roasted bison tenderloin with pearled barley and cranberry risotto, served with french beand and a TRUE cranberry demi-glace. Remarkable.'
And the people serving us were obviously there to serve us and not turn tables.
And to top it off we had a bottle of fablous Spanish mencia!
And stopped at the bar on the way out for Framboise (ON TAP)! And the best chocolate cake I have ever had.
This place is in a league by itself!
Cudos!
See you at Flannerys'

Wow! The place is fantastic, gret food, great service, nice cozy fireplace in every room, like 20 eclectic draft beers, and a cool selection of wines! I could not beleive the overall quality of there food offerings, we have a hard time finding a place this good in the capital....pretty amazing...highly recommended!
