I had the worst experience ever at the Dobbin House in Gettysburg. My husband and I go to Gettysburg frequently. We went there New Years Eve "08" to have dinner with family members. Grant it is was very busy, when we got there the woman at the door was very short and was not interested in help us find the rest of our party. We kept tell her we knew that they were there, we saw their vehicle in the parking lot. She seem to get very irrated with us. After not getting any help and not finding the rest of our party, my husband and I left. That was my first and last time to the Dobbin House. If they are that busy on New Year's Eve, then how do they handle the crowds during tourist season.

The atmosphere alone makes dinner at Dobbin House well worth your time and money. It's Gettysburg's oldest home, and your visit islike stepping into a time machine. Servers in period garb serve excellent cuisine by candlelight. We had the Adams County Roast Duck and the Filet Mignon, which were wonderful, with an order of the crab cakes. (Not to be missed)

It's a bit pricey, and you may have a long wait to get in, but take the time to visit if you are in Gettysburg.

It's worth lingering in the gift shop. It's stuffed full of curios (so be careful moving around in there!), and a nice change from much of the kitsch that's sold in other shops along Steinwehr Ave. I got a gorgeous Bradley bag.

Our regiment has our annual Christmas party at Dobbin House, and we look forward to it as much as the battles during the year.

Not to be missed on any trip to Gettysburg.

I went to Gettysburg for the first time with my boyfriend, who is a Civil War buff, and he surprised me with reservations here! The staff, dressed in traditional period clothing, are very attentive and efficient, the atmosphere really takes you back, and the food is AWESOME! Not only do you get a very well-filled bread basket (with mini muffins and fruit bread to boot!), but the portions are very generous. I had to take over half my food home because I couldn't finish it. The apple pie and lemon berry mascarpone cake are worth coming here for in themselves, and they are made right there. The apple pie melts in your mouth, and is even better with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top. Altogether, our meal, including salad, drinks, and dessert, was just over $65, not bad for a nice romantic dinner! We are going back in December, and can't wait to see the place decorated for Christmas. Also, there are fireplaces in all of the rooms as well. If you go, I personally recommend the seafood Isabella, which is a seafood medley in a wine sauce over fettucine and has more seafood than pasta, and the hunter's chicken, which is a chicken breast served with a white wine and mushroom sauce with tomatoes. I guarantee you will be STUFFED when you leave there, and want to top it off with a tour of the gift shop and a walk around historic Gettysburg or perhaps a ghost tour. This is a very good place to take family, friends you want to impress, or if you want a good, romantic, yet reasonably priced dinner date. You will not be disappointed! I do recommend making reservations, as the place does fill up quickly, especially around the holidays.
