expensive unenjoyable experience: My entire family refused to eat most of the food. I felt like I was re-experiencing my elementary school's cafeteria food from the 60's because of the taste and presentation.

Sorry you had a bad experience. The food and service was great. It is a family restaurant, served family style. Their ham loaf is out of this world. I was there 10 years ago, and when I found I was going to be in the area, I made sure I could go back. Thanks to Yahoo I found the restaurant, location, and maps to it.
I can't believe anyone would say it was expensive and unenjoyable. We just came back from another weekend in Bird-In-Hand. On our way home we decided to stop here and eat. It was cheaper than Plain & Fancy and so much more tasty (all 8 of us agreed). The ham loaf was sooo good, I went home and went through my Amish cookbooks to see if I could figure out which was the closest. I have been to the area many times and had never eaten here, but you can be assured we will have at least one meal there when we return in October.
