I can't believe that given the state of today's economy that a restaurant manager and owner wouldn't want to do their best to keep a customer happy. However, that certainly isn't the case at Chess & Checkers. I recently had a meal with my family in which I bit into a piece of Tilapia only to find a metal shaving of some sort. This was at least an inch long (maybe from a brillo pad or shaving from a can that had been opened).
I asked to speak to the manager who in turn came to our table and just stood there. He didn't apologize or even acknowledge he knew what the problem was. I had to ask him if he knew why he was standing there at my table just looking at me. He said he did, still not apologizing, and then said he'd credit our bill for my entree. He asked if there were other problems. I told him we'd been sitting there waiting for our meal for over an hour and my wife’s meal (which visibly hadn’t been touched) was cold from the time it was served to us and very dry.
The waitress returned with our adjusted bill and I felt I had to let the owner know about the way his manager had handled the situation. The owner became quickly agitated and began raising his voice with me (I was really thrown but later our waitress told us the manager was the owner’s son). He yelled at me that they had done all that they could. My question in response to this was “Did they really do all they could?” They removed my meal but I had told them how poor the rest of the food had been. From other experiences in the past this guy certainly could have done more and maybe even had us return someday if they handled the situation better. Even a simple apology and some assurance that this wouldn’t happen again would have been good (I got nothing of the sort from the owner).
If you eat here I hope you have better luck and don’t find yourself making an ER visit after your meal.

I have eaten at Chess N Checkers a number of times and booked the entire upstairs a few times and everytime has been excellent food and excellent service for a very good price!
