Got takeout to get a sampling of the food since I know from my youth the restaurant is small on the inside. I found their website and it talks the place up and it's new chef as if it's quality dining which it is not.
Chicken was raw and inedible. Stuffed flounder was stuffed but 95% breading. I was lucky to find a few tasteless portions of what appeared to be crabmeat. Sauce was bland and not done very well.
I would recommend sticking with apps here as their mussels are done very well as are their baked clams. Entrees however are very overpriced based on quality of food which was poor.
This place is so good! My boyfriend and I had dinner there on Friday and the whole experience was awesome. We had a 7:00 reservation and were seated almost immediately. Our waitress was very friendly and got our drinks very quickly. She told us all about the specials and gave us another minute to decide. My boyfriend went for the mussels in white sauce for an appetizer and one of the specials, an 8 oz filet topped with jumbo lump crab, sun-dried tomatoes, mushrooms and a creamy marsala sauce...holy crap! Everything was amazing :) I chose the clams casino for my appetizer and the ceasar salad topped with jumbo lump crab for my entree. I'm not kidding when I say that was the best ceasar salad I've ever had! The clams were great too, hot and cheesy with delicious chunks of clam. The bill came to about $65 and for the meal we had, it was well worth it. We will definitely be back to the Clam Tavern very soon!
We had a good dinner (not great) at the Clam Tavern on a Friday evening. We only had to wait a couple of minutes for a table. The seating is a bit crowded but the small restaurant has some ambience with its rustic look. We both had the broiled seafood combination. However, it was more of a sampler than a combination platter especially for the $21 price tag. The vegetable medley of broccoli, carrots, string beans and red peppers was delicious. The house garden salad was simple with fresh lettuce, cucumbers and grape tomatoes. I also has the french fries with bay seasoning which were pretty good.
