I love Christy's, but I wish you could get some decent food when visiting taverns in the Marcus Hook area. In West Chester and many of the other area taverns, the food is front and center-- high quality, homemade fare-- and not some formerly-frozen, deep fried or fresh-out-of-a-can after thought.
I'd love to go into Christy's someday and get a really decent meal. Would be great to get a killer ceasar salad, some pasta, real crab cakes or even a decent bowl of homemade soup.
Like me, I tend to think most regulars would feel uncomfortable speaking up and telling the folks that run their favorite place what I'm writting here. I know I wouldn't have the guts to say it out loud. The ironic thing is, if just one place in/around Hook decided to start cranking out some great food, it would probably create an instant buzz, get a mention in the local newspaper and put them on the map.
No insult intended here, but while you'll have no trouble finding a good pizza, cheese steak or wings in Marcus Hook, you won't find much of anything else. I'm a soup addict. It would be awesome to hit Christy's, grab a beer and enjoy a really well-done bowl of clam chowder, French onion or gumbo. The first Marcus Hook tavern to catch up with the times and start serving real food will have 'em lined up out the door. Show me some homemade Kennett Mushroom or snapper turtle soup and you'll have my heart.
had a great time: will always come back
