Zakes Cakes & Cafe

What a special place. I was brought here for lunch by a business associate and I could not believe how great the soups and sanwiches were. I am a real soup nut, and these are the real deal. It turns out that everything is available to take away, as well, inclluding quarts of soup and loaves of that great bread. If I lived a little closer, I dont think we would ever cook at home!
I liked it so much that I took my wife for dinner. She is a little on the picky side, but she was very pleased with everything. We even had dessert, which we almost never do. It was just too good looking to pass up. I had a prix fixe meal that was a real buy at $25, including an ap, an entree and a dessert. They even brought me a complimentary glass of wine! My wife ordered a la carte and fell in love with the creative mix of flavors - she had braised short ribs that were spiced with five star spice and really tender- amazing. I will definitely get them next time. There will certainly be a next time.

Zakes food is fantastic - NEVER had a bad meal there. Their catering is outstanding too. Love their breads and cakes. I do agree with another reviewer that the cakes shouldn't be served cold.

great lunches & deserts: I have eaten here 6+ times and never had a bad dish. Service is slow because the place has always been very busy. There is always a crowd there for lunch...and the deserts are really to die for! Never had an omlette like the first reviewer, but I'm sure it would not be bad. There sandwiches are exotic and very delicious!
