Oldtime pizza, steak and sub shop.: I found Dave's a couple years ago. This is the only pizza, steak and sub shop I ever go to now. Most people won't think much of the ambiance, unless they remember what these shops were like before pizza became big business. I swear, it takes me back to the 50's and early 60's. The owners are not into nostalgia, but they have it without even knowing it. When I sit there eating my pizza, it feels like a bunch of the guys from back when might just stop by with their black leather jackets and greased-back hair with cute chicks on their arms. So much for ambiance. The best part is the food! I don't know what's so hard about making pizza, but hardly anybody gets it right. Dave's does. And it's never burnt of over done and hard. The owner's are Greek. Now there's a "Greek Style" pizza which I've had from time to time in the Philadelphia area, which is pretty good, but Dave's goes beyond that. It's just great! I don't know why. It's just great. And you can buy by the slice, too (if you can't handle a whole pizza, large or small). I notice their delivery people are running in and out all day and, so other peope must love it, too. The steaks are genuine Philadelphia style. They are just right, and I'm a guy who's really hard to please. The subs (hoagies) are the best you can get. But best of all, they will make them any way you want! I don't just mean any combination of oil, lettuce and so on. I mean ANY WAY YOU WANT. Suppose you just want, say, salami and meat balls on a hoagie roll? Of course, only a nut would ask for that, but Dave's would make it. WHATEVER YOU WANT. Other places I've ordered from (pre Dave's for me) just wouldn't do anything special. Now just accept the fact that the food is great, until you try for yourself, but it even gets better. The portions are very substantial. Did you ever order a LARGE hoagie and wonder (after you got your order ) whether they heard the word "large"? That won't happen here. Large means large at Dave's. Another great thing about Dave's is that the owner's are wonderful people. After you go there for a while, you become one of their family of regulars, some of which are pretty interesting characters. Everybody is friendly. It's not a hang out or anything, but there are regulars who would never be caught dead in any other pizza shop, steak shop or hoagie shop. What I've noticed is that the customers are so loyal that they go out of their way to tell eveybody to go to Dave's and NOWHERE ELSE. If you say you're going for pizza, they're bound to ask, "Where?" If you say Dave's, they'll say "Right on." or "Right." or "They're the best." or " I don't go anywhere else." or something like that. Personally, I now scold anyone who goes for pizza anywhere else. Same thing for subs or steaks. Another bonus just came to mind. I just tried out a new line of home made fudge Dave's just started to sell. It was the best I ever had. No shit! Consider this: I'm a customer. I don't work at Dave's. They don't know I'm writing this review. They will never know who wrote this review. I won't be getting any free pizza for writing this review. I won't get anything out of this, and it took me the last 30 minutes or more to write in this review because I'm slow at the keyboard. Also I' m writing this review from my office when I should be well on the way home by now, so there's an element of sacrafice involved here for my lost time. I get no pay back. I'm writing this as an anonymous gift for the great service and food I've gottern at Dave's. That's all folks.
