Primarily a steak house, the restaurant operated for three years before the owners felt a change was necessary. They wanted to create a more casual setting and in August 2008 renovations began. The entire face of the restaurant was demolished and replaced with sliding french doors that open out to the street. Opening under the name Stephen's on State, the restaurant now offers outside cafe dining in addition to the ala carte lunch and dinner menu. Responding to the high volume of bar business, Stephen's once again renovated in August of 2008 and expanded into the adjacent building doubling the bar capacity and adding a new dance floor. With live entertainment Monday through Saturday, many people are coming to Stephen's to enjoy a full dining experience, dance, or maybe simply to enjoy an appetizer and cocktail from their extensive martini and wine list while listening to music.

They are the worst in customer satisfaction. The owner was dismissive and unconcerned when we tried to use a gift certificate my mother paid him for in November (cash in his pocket already) with a double take deal he agreed to set up and we had paid for. We will not be going there again even tough we live in Media.
I had been to Stephens Prime before and had a wonderful experience, that was my reason to go there Sunday night to purchase a gift certificate for dear friends. I was soooo disappointed. the band was so noisy and loud. No one could ever enjoy dinner with the music and people dancing all over the place. No one was eating dinner..... Too bad, so sad......
After reading several bad reviews, I still wanted to try Stephen's figuring if they can afford to have music 6 out of 7 nights, they can't be all bad. Our party of three had rave reviews on the appetizer...stuffed figs with goat cheese and prosciutto....don't believe we even tried them! The entrees were equally delicious, and the dessert was heavenly made. We were greeted promptly and had our choice of a table or booth. Granted this was a Thursday night and not that busy even though we had reservations. Our waiter, Will, was first-class and attended to us with courtesy, humor, and professionalism. He must of had a good upbringing! The only negative comment would be that the restaurant was described as elegant, quiet, and romantic on the yahoo site. I found it to be casual and noisy, definitely not romantic. It looked much more elegant on their website than in person. But the food was excellent, loved the music, waiter was on the ball, and we definitely would come back, but maybe not with someone we wanted to romance!
