Cheng Hing Restaurant

I think the food is wonderful and so inventive, especually for vegetarians, and very tasty if a little over-dependent on deep-frying, but both the people who have joined me for meals there didn't like it much. The problem I have is that the service is so bad I would expect to see such only in the likes of campy, B-movie parody of a Chinese restaurant. Just beyond rude. Eat in or take out, doesn't matter. The cashier actually called me once because I was 5 minutes late picking up my order from the time they said it would be ready, and yelled at me for letting my food get cold! The family apparently lives out of the back of the restaurant, so the attempt at nice decor in the front is ruined by the baby toys and other personal effects laying all over. They have a tendency to lounge around back by the kitchen as well. It's really a shame; Swartthmore could use a really nice restaurant for the college kids to go on a nice date and for families to relax in. And Cheng Hing is right by the train station so picking up a meal to take home after a busy day would be so easy. Unfortunately all my visits to this place have raised my blood pressure so high with anger at the treatment I always get that it defeats the purpose of having a good quality meal experience, and I have boycotted them completely. One would think in a dry town in Swarthmore they would try extra hard, but no.
