My family and I attended the Pirates exhibit (which was great) this weekend. While we were there, my daughter (age 10) went on the Sky Bike, but my son was, at age 8, "too short." As an alternative, we took him downstairs to the Franklin Air Show (a flight simulator). No one offered my kids any info on how to operate it, except to say that they should press the Emergency button if they needed to stop.
The ride was a NIGHTMARE. My kids ended up "flying" upside down and backwards. My husband and I were standing nearby listening to their shrieks of terror. I STRONGLY urge you not to let little kids go on this ride without an adult!!! It was horrible. My daughter cried for an hour.
When I spoke with the supervisor on duty, I did not get the feeling that he would take care of it. OH! I nearly forgot about the kid who got shocked after he volunteered for the electricity demonstration.
This place doesn't seem to put our kids' safety first!!!
Do NOT visit the museum during an exhibits final week or days. They do not put the same effort into your experience as those who went early. In particular, the Star Wars 'shop' was a picked over area of pet costumes and nothing else because the museum didn't want anything left over. Meanwhile they are staying open for 24 hours the last two days. Of course they want as much admission $$ as possible, but don't expect anything to be left over or in stock for you. NEVER visit a traveling exhibit with them during the final weekend.
Franklin Institute: Very nice outing for a family, has alot of thing to see and do
