We ate in the main dining room. I think we both would have been happier with the bar menu. Our selections were very mediocre for the price. The lamb was extremely fatty, not a very good cut of meat. The salmon was nothing special, it looked like something you could get at any Applebees or Outback.
Bring the prices down a bit and this place would be fine. Otherwise there's a handful of other options more satisfying in this price range.
After all the nice reviews, I expected more from this cafe. The atmosphere was great and inviting but the food was mediocre. I dined in the piano bar area which had very musty odor. The menu did not offer much choices. I ordered the Duck confit. The duck was good but the confit lacked flavor. My soup was bland and up to the dessert cookies it was unremarkable. I expected complex flavors from the descriptions on the menu and got nothing. I am very disappointed did they change chefs since the last reviews? It's pricey. The concept of the White Dog is great, the service was good but the food is not worth it. What I found disturbing is the cigarette smoke my companions and I kept smelling during our meal.
SEPARATE BATHROOMS FOR DEMOCRATS AND REPUBLICANS: OK, I know this place over 20 years. I went here for the first time in 1986 when I worked at the University of Pennsylvania. Their Long Island Iced Tea is awesome.
In those days, the chef made the best batter fried onion rings-Huge Rings. These days, the menu is even more diverse with plenty to choose from. My friend Joe and I went here and had the best lunch. They never rush you out of here, and the people that work and frequent here are the best anywhere.
This is one place that is great for a first date, gathering of friends, or a romantic dinner just the two of you. Please check it out. Be sure to ask when the grill opens in the afternoon since the chef is really the one that sets the tone for the menu.
