Going to Alma de Cuba is fun because it is a big restaurant with a classy feel and a cool atmosphere. As with most Starr establishments, the service is professional, courteous, and young. With that said, the food is something of a let-down. It certainly is not bad and it does not cost an extreme amount, but it is not thrilling nor inspiring. In fact, some dishes are forgettable, not because they are awful, but because they seem like they never happened once the plate has been taken away. I have eaten there a few times now and can say I do not remember what I had as my entree each time. I perhaps expected too much because the idea of the restaurant seems really great. I thought there would be great fusions of cuisine and a rush of bold and unique flavors, but I have been disappointed to the point where I don't care to go back. I might also add that the dessert menu was sparse the last time I went (which, I'll admit, was several months ago - almost a year from this posting). Vegetarian items are available and the appetizers can be very good. I did not pay too much attention to the wine list, but their spirits and beer collections have been a little predictable, though competent.

Perfect place for dinning out. Saying the food is fantastic is an understatement. Beautiful clean place with great service. Impeccable in every way. If you want to enjoy a meal out in Philadelphia with whom ever..take them here. They will always remember that you did!

My husband took me here for my birthday this past Sunday and I must say this place is off the chain! The decor was very chic. The drinks were delicious, the food was outstanding and the service was impeccable. We started at the bar downstairs with a Mango Martini, my husband had a glass pinot noir. After we were seated at a nice intimate tabe by the window, we perused the menu which was quite extensive; there was little of everything for everyone's taste. I settled on the beef tenderloin with crabmeat as an entree and it was awesome. The meat melted in my mouth it was so tender. My husband had the 'fried cow' (can't think of the actual name on the menu), but it was delicious as well, and appetizers were the kobe meatballs. It is definitely worth the trip and the money.
