| About: | Tir na nOg Irish Bar & Grill incorporates the warmth of an Irish pub with New American cuisine and all the while maintains a famous charm and hospitality. This extremely popular establishment opened four years ago in the heart of Center City Philadelphia, after the runaway success of the original in Manhattan. A design team from Ireland created this small piece of Ireland by salvaging architectural pieces, furniture and bric-a-brac from churches and castles in Ireland and shipping them to the USA. These pieces, combined with rich textiles, Celtic script adorning the walls, and rich, dark wood have shaped an elegant yet inviting atmosphere which caters to the sophisticated and casual diner. Tir na nOg was just what Philly needed, a beautiful, yet unpretentious bar and restaurant that has something for everyone. The combination of an attractive menu and a professional, yet friendly, team of bartenders and servers has made Tir na nOg a major success with clientele of all ages. |

Rudest bartender and slowest service: While the bar and patio seemed like a fun and cozy place, our service was TERRIBLE. We sat on the patio and felt as if we had dragged our server from her bed to take care of us. Even though it was a Monday and not very busy, It took about 20 minutes to get our first round (there were only 4 of us) and we never could drag a smile out of her. After finding yellow chunks of spongy stuff in the bottom of my $5.75 Newcastle pint, the bartender rudely explained that it was sediment, that all dark beers have sediment, "ya know, like wine" and stared at me deadpan until I finally had to ask him for a replacement. It was the second Newcastle they served me with said yellow chunks. Then he rudely said "it's dark outside, I don't know how you could see it anyway". Suffice it to say that even after being a server and bartender for 10 years myself and having worked in a brewery, I am a bit too polite to tell this guy a thing or two about FILTERED beer and GOOD customer service. (I should have said, 'This is the part where you apologize and ask me if you can pour me something different') I've been drinking brown beers since this punk was in grade school and I have never had funky yellow chunks of sediment in my beer, brown or otherwise. The other reviews for this place looked great, but our experience was awful, and I'll be sure to tell anyone else from our 400 person conference NOT to go here.
Big place, lots of character: Not the cheapest spot, but the food and drink is excellent. Very large place with some small nooks to hide in. Also has some tables outside and some inside the foyer of the building it is in. Good spot
My Favorite Happy Hour in Philly: I love this bar and restaurant on Arch Street, and love their happy hour. I have to say that it is a little better now since they stopped allowing smoking in Philly, and now I can have a great time at the Nog, and still breathe. Besides the crowd and the music, my favorite is the friend calamari. Don't miss this!
