I love Tony Luke's so when one newpaper article review recommended the sausage and pepper sandwich, I thought I'd give it a try. When I got back to my office and unwrapped my sandwich, I was shocked to find cheap processed sausage patties (the ones you get in the breakfast sandwiches at food carts) and not the traditional italian sausage links one normally associates with the words sausage and peppers. It was a HUGE let down!!!! Bottomline, stick to the roast pork and chicken cutlet sandwiches.
The best of the big name Cheesesteak places in PHI: Anyone who says Pat's or Geno's is better has never been here. It may take longer to get your sandwich but it is 10 times better. I don't even think that is an exageration.
You want a Philly cheesesteaK?: Tony Lukes is the best. You want a Philly cheesesteak, you go to Jim's, Pat's, Geno's, or Tony Luke's. I say go to Tony Luke's because they have more than just steaks. They also have roast pork, roast beef, chicken cutlet, and uncle mikes (vegetarian). This place also has all the extras: sharp provolone, broccoli rabe, spinach, long hots, sweet peppers, etc. Plus, they bake their own bread...you can't beat this. South Philly, Oregon Ave is where its at! Remember you sit at picnic like tables and are dealing with Philly service...order quick and get outta the way.
