I have gone to Jake's over the years after dinner for drinks and their amazing apple pie. Decided to go to dinner here finally. Before you read I must make mention every dining experience is different, mine was horrible.
We came in to an almost empty restaurant and were sat in the back where the servers make their way through. Very uncomfortable. Ordered wine on the menu that was 'by the glass' yet they did not have an open bottle of this wine. It took almost 15 minutes to get our glass of wine. The server seems content on waiting to every other table that followed us and took her time to take our order. The Maitre'D of the establishment took it upon himself to greet every customer in the restaurant...except for our table. He didn't even so much as make contact when he walked by, head held high as if he were somehow better than us as people and we were not worthy of his contact.
I ordered the Wasabi Tuna when it came there was no Wasabi on it. I had to ask for Wasabi...which came almost 10 minutes after I ordered the food. The mussels for appetizer was very good. The sausage it came with was spicy.
The food was good. Not great but good. For dessert we ordered the sorbet dish and I asked for some iced wine. The server had no idea what that was. Amazing. The sorbet was sour and bad. It also came in a plate big enough a 12oz steak. The menu said it came with fresh fruit. We counted 2 thinly sliced strawberries.
Me being young (26) I can only assume they thought I was not aware of how good service should be done. I figure my money is good here as it is anywhere else. I am a entrepreneur and make a comfortable living that I have been able to enjoy fine dining since I was 21. For the service, preparation of the food and overall hospitality I would say it is definitely not worth the price. The restaurant has fallen off considerably from what it once was, as was evident from the empty seats on a Saturday night. If you're going to spend $150-200 on a nice dinner I would suggest any other restaurant in Manayunk.
Amazing food and service: This beautiful restaurant had fantastic food and the most professional service I have seen in local restaurants. It was classy but not snobby.
Great place!: Excellent food in a cool spot in town.
