Sushi YES, Teppan yaki NO!: All Japanese steak houses are the same, right? Wrong! Hikaru in Manayunk (Philadelphia) was a bit of a disappointment for me. First of all, the teppan yaki chef did NO tricks and he was very slow. To his credit, though, I liked him a lot because he possessed a respectfulness in demeanor that is typical of Asians. Second, the food was not all that great. The miso had a different taste and my hibachi steak was less than stellar. What was good was the Boston sushi and a beef-wrapped scallion (forgot what it's called). These were items that were not prepared on the teppan yaki grill. Manayunk is a very cool area filled with restaurants, shops, cobblestone streets -- and it just has a great city vibe to it. If you find yourself wanting Japanese while you're there, order something from Hikaru's sushi bar, but not the teppan yaki grill!
