Overpriced. I don't mind paying $15 for a dinner if the food is good but it's not - very mediocre. I asked for the leftovers because I wasn't going to waste $15 dollars and they threw them out! It only gets a second star because I love the set up of the place - the mismatched tablesets and silverware. Wish they'd dedicate as much time and effort to their food and drinks as they do to their atmosphere.
A special corner for special people: This is the best restaurant experience I've had in Philadelphia. Granted, I haven't been out a bunch, but for fine dining, this strikes me as the ideal combination of spruced-up, relaxed, full of character, tasty and reasonably priced.
Plush furnishings fill the space to a delicious coziness, without putting you too near anyone. Indeed, there seem to be four or five fancifully-themed seating areas in this small restaurant with seating for -- ? -- maybe 40. On what was probably a typical Saturday night, my companion and I had one such area -- the Alice 'room' all to ourselves.
At one point I caught myself eying a beautiful, sky-lit grotto with seating for 6, flanked with house-plants, at the back of the restaurant, but only out of a pleasurable anticipation for the next visit here.
Extraordinary: I cannot say enough about this restaurant. I have been going here since 1992 and have NEVER had a bad experience. Some of my not so cosmopolitan "friends" that I have recommended this place to have done nothing other than talk about the "great" experience they had. The food is awesome, the staff is friendly, for a big city the prices are fantastic, and every table setting is different. A truly eclectic experience for those with an appetite. A " Must Do" for every sophisticated and not so sophisticated diner.
