About:T.G.I. Friday's, the first American casual dining chain, is a dining experience that has become the favorite pastime of millions since 1965. The first T.G.I. Friday's was located at First Avenue and 63rd Street in New York City and featured red and white stripes, a blue exterior and its name -- T.G.I. Friday's. Inside were wooden floors, Tiffany lamps, bentwood chairs and striped tablecloths. The bar area, with its brass rails and stained glass, contributed to the ambiance. For T.G.I. Friday's interior decor, a full time antique "picker" traveled extensively to auctions and flea markets. Memorabilia had to be authentic and, if possible, unique to the area where the new restaurant would be located. In a Nashville warehouse, this "clutter" was restored before being loaded on a truck bound for the next T.G.I. Friday's opening. The New York T.G.I. Friday's enjoyed an immediate and spectacular success. First year revenues totaled $1 million. This restaurant on Manhattan's Upper East Side had become THE meeting place for single adults. In fact, according to Newsweek and The Saturday Evening Post, the opening of T.G.I. Friday's heralded the dawn of the singles age. By 1972, the restaurant as we know it today was taking everyone by storm. By 1975, there were ten T.G.I. Friday's restaurants in eight states. As of June 30 there are 609 in 52 countries! As the guests have changed, so has Friday's. The company has grown and the guests have matured. Now many of them bring their children with them when they dine at T.G.I Friday's and, T.G.I. Friday's still offers an unsurpassed menu selection of food prepared to perfection, served in a lively, engaging atmosphere.

We usually enjoy our meal here ...good for lunch, or a casual dinner, loud rock/pop music always playing in background, which i like, but some might not. Usually lots of famlies and kids also a good teen date restaurant.

Please note: Call ahead to make a reservation as it can get very crowded in the evenings. They do offer Techz for those who would like to venture over to adjacent shops if the wait is predicted to be over ten minutes.

This restaurant has always made me smile as the warm paneled walls are decorated with a wide variety of found objects that are good as conversation starters for those on a date. There is a nice bar area, plenty of booths, and private tables for couples, all strategically placed to make guests feel right at home.

As a family dining place, I found the children's menu, which offered macaroni and cheese and chicken fingers, to be a wonderful taste treat for the young ones. Crayons and coloring menus are offered to keep young children occupied while they wait. This is not a place geared toward infants.

Service has always been courteous and offered with a smile. Sometimes there is a wait for the food, but I have often used that time to enjoy speaking with my guests. I have tried numerous entrees on the menu, all of which were quite delicious. A wide variety of styles was available upon my most recent visit. I have gone for the Asian flair as of late. The presentation of the dumplings was quite artistic. I have also ordered lightly sauteed fried string beans -- fantastic! The steak -- juicy, tender and flavorful. A place to dine and bring friends.

I went to T.G.I. Friday's last night for a casual dinner out, and was very disappointed. I ordered the "Sizzling Chicken & Cheese" which sounded delicious, but was quite the contrary. I was served a microwaved plate of cheese and soggy vegetables with 2 taste-less pieces of rubber chicken on top (not the texture chicken should be). I ate about three bites of it, and couldn't go on. The waitress was polite, but when we asked to have the appetizers wrapped up in one container, she stood at our table, and picked the Mozarella sticks up with her fingers to move them into the container. We were speechless. If you're going to touch someone's food with your bare hands, at least do in the kitchen where they can't see you! We took our dessert to go (probably the only good part of the meal) because we were thoroughly grossed out.

PS - Since when does a "family restaurant" play Linkin Park for dinner music?
