I'll start with the service. It was horrible! First we waited 10 minutes AFTER being seated for somebody to say hello. After his very COLD hello he disappeared for another 5-10 minutes before bringing our drinks / bread. After we had our meal he gave us the customary "how is it" 1 minute after we started eating and then disappeared for 25 minutes. Had he asked again we would have sent two things back. That takes me to the food. The bread was good and the soup was great(tomato basil). We thought things were turning around. WRONG! My beef stroganoff was horrible. It was an insult to call it that because it didn't remotely taste like traditional beef stroganoff and they try to mask it with a HUGE glob of sour cream on top, which I didn't request. My wife said her ham and cabbage was HORRIBLE. She couldn't even finish more than half of it. My daughter didn't like her grilled cheese. I took a bight and she was right. Not good. Anyway, that speaks to the service and the food. Did I mention the price? WAY overpriced for what we got. My kid's meals didn't even come with a drink so we had to order 3 chocolate milks that were so weak you could hardly taste the chocolate. And for the price I could have bought 2 gallons of good chocolate milk. Needless to say, our overpriced, poorly tasting meal, served by a waiter with no personality was the last one we'll eat there.
Brickside Grille likely is a decent after-work restaurant for a sandwich or munchies and a cold brew. It might be a good place, too, to catch light dinner and a ball game on television. But though management hopes you would, don't expect a gourmet experience for an evening meal.
Our party of three adults dined there in mid-August 2008 and left feeling full but disappointed. The 12-ounce prime rib, requested as medium, was served undercooked. A 12-ounce New York strip steak, also requested medium, was served overcooked and somewhat dry. To the kitchen's credit, the crabmeat-stuffed shrimp were fine.
House sides appealed far more than the entrees. Potatoes whipped with horseradish were tangy and sweet, and without a harsh bite. A medley of grilled vegetables, mostly green and yellow squash, was crisp and tasty. Fresh-baked bread seemed to come directly from the oven, sufficiently soft inside with a crust of just-right chewiness.
Some reviewers of Brickside have raved about its light fare items. Indeed, its menu abounds with burgers and other treats intended to satisfy patrons who arrive at noon and after 5 from dozens of surrounding office buildings. Those offerings are moderately priced, usually for between $7 and $10, and seem to represent a value.
That's not the case, sadly, for the dinner presentation. Entrees generally cost between $20 and $29 (there's a portobello salad for $17, however), and at those prices diners should expect food of higher quality.
Waitstaff was attentive. Parking is plentiful.
You won't go wrong at this family-friendly eatery. Try anything on the menu...it's all perfect. A courteous staff, good prices, diverse & a constantly changing menu make The Brickside a favourite for my family and visiting friends.
