Avalon in West Chester, PA is an incredible BYOB restaurant. John (the owner) has done a terrific job of providing a diverse yet well balanced menu that changes seasonally. The staff is well-trained, courteous and very familiar with the menu options. The restaurant, while being somewhat small and intimate, gives you the private space you need for a quality dining experience. The restaurant also provides both indoor and outdoor dining that offers flexibility as the seasons change. My wife and I like this restaurant so much that we even had a small wedding there this past December. Every aspect of this restaurant keeps me coming back.
Oh, Avalon what happened to you? You were once one of my favorite restruants but last Saturday's dining experience was one of the worst I ever had.
First, I asked for a quiet table. I spent the evening yelling at my husband because it was so loud.
Second, service, our server was never around and our order took a very long time. I asked others for him but no one could seem to find him.
Third, food. My husband ordered a Organic salad ($9) which equated to 3 or 4 pieces of salad and some sprouts. I ordered the Caprise Salad ($8) which had more because it had cheese. For the main course my husband ordered the black and white ravoli ($24) which was 4 ravoli and I ordered the Salmon ($18) which was two very slender slices of salmon and NO VEGETABLES. There were no side vegetables to order on the menu. We did not have dessert, mostly out of frustration.
I have not ever reviewed a restaurant before but we were so unhappy and I felt others needed to know.
We had a wonderful experience and meal at Avalon this past weekend. Our server, Justin, was fabulous and had excellent suggestions from the menu. LOVED the outside seating and atmosphere!! Will DEF go back. The only flaw was that we had a reservation and walked in the door before a large party of people. The hostess asked us to wait so she could seat them first, when we had clearly been standing there for 10 mins. And we noticed she asked every table how there evening was, except our table. Hmm...well we loved our service and food!!!!
Can't wait to go back
