About:The oldest pub in the Berks County, this Irish pub was originally built in Yorkshire, England, by traditional English craftsmen, then disassembled, transported, and reconstructed by those same craftsmen at its current location. Dishes such as USDA prime steak, catch-of-the-day, homemade soups, and succulent seafood dishes are served daily for lunch and dinner in an authentic Celtic atmosphere. The on site bar is stocked with over 80 beers from all around the world and the Guinness is always tapped to the strict specifications of Arthur Guinness himself.

The food is excellent but the service is HORRIBLE. Good luck on getting refills, having your waitress stop back to check how things were, and getting your check. This is also not a child friendly atmosphere so don't bring your baby or toddler with! I work across the street and often go there on my hour lunch break... the food takes forever to come out but again the FOOD IS EXCELLENT (I've just learned to not tip or leave a lousy tip against my better judgement because of the lack of service).

If you're in Reading, do yourself a favor.....: After a grueling VF outlet session, we crossed the river into East Reading and decided to try the Ugly Oyster for a late lunch. The bar itself was gorgeous, and comfortable. The oysters were great, the fish 'n chips portion was generous, and the service was very attentive without being overbearing. The prices were very reasonable for appetizers and entrees. I will be back. It's on the small side, so go with a group of no more than four, but definitely go.

The Ugly Oyster: Since I've moved here, this is the place that I like to eat & drink best. It is an Irish Pub, which showcases traditional Irish music. I love the fiddlers & the mandolin. I like Bailey's, & they always have it. They have good shrimp bisque soup, but my favorite is the Ugly Pretzel, which is stuffed with crab & cheddar...yummy. There is a painting of the oysters from The Walrus & the Carpenter poem by Lewis Carol on the outside of the building, which has always been a favorite of mine..."And they ate them one & all". The restroom signs are written in Gaelic, which is also very cool. I love The Ugly Oyster.
