This place is a Delaware institution frequented by U of D students and locals. A true "drinking hole" that has been renovated since I first started going there and much nicer inside than it used to be. Actually, I think I was served my first drink there - legal anyway. ;-). The Deer Park is famous for its history as a boarding house where Edgar Allan Poe stayed - hence the reason for the raven as the symbol on their t-shirts.
Anyway, the Deer Park has a decent selection of beer with some decent micro brews, mixed drinks and better than average pub food. Their loaded nachos have been a favorite of mine for yearly. Burgers aren't bad either.
I really like the front deck they added a few years ago. Its nice to sit outside and drink on a warm night. They frequently have bands which can get a bit loud outside. But most times I go there there are no bands and I appreciate that they don't pump the music. Its been one of the few places where you can actually talk to the person across the table from you without yelling.
I give a C++: Not the best Newark has to offer but it gets the job done. A raise in mug drink prices was a shot in the arm, but i guess they can justify it with the rising gas prices like everyone else does. Drafts in the small mug, which they say is 14 oz, more like 10, went from a buck to 1.50. A dark bar so if youre not one to look at a good place for a first date. Food is ok, better than a lot of other places, thursdays the place gets "giggin" with a different band, and look at for Tom Travers mixing it up on saturdays. Deck atmosphere is also pretty coo. btw, im not an employee, this place is just alright and better beer is quite expensive and dont mess with their drink of the week concoctions, taste like plumb hell. I like the place all in all and plan on going there later on and getting drunk as a fiddlers b.
