This place is very good for students who leave nearby Main St. It carries everything when it comes to vegeterian and vegan food: frozen products, baked goods, canned food, grains, nice selection of honey, vitamins, books, etc. But it's a little on the expensive side.

If your watching your pocket I recommend the Farmer's Market on Kirkwood Ave. Not at a lot of selection when it comes to frozen goods and the fresh produce including most of the things they sell there since it targets Spanish (mostly Mexican) and Asian consumers. In other words, almost nothing pre-made is sold, which I think is best. At least you know what goes into your food.

As a student at UD Newark Natural Foods Co-Op definitely helped to keep me fed during my tenure. They're a fairly small joint, but I suppose my health food store standards, they're a decent size. They have about.. 7 aisles or so currently. They have a pretty good selection of fresh produce, which is my main concern. Harvest Market in Hockessin beats them at this, I feel, but this co-op seems to be doing the best it can, and it's better than what you could find in most grocery stores, though Giant is starting to carry most of what this co-op carries. They're greens are wilted or damaged more often than I'd like, and usually are somewhat small- typical head of lettuce there is probably about a half pound or a bit more. These things become important if one tries to eat as healthy as one could, consuming a pound and a half of greens a day. Again, Harvest Market's heads are usually heaver and not wilted. Other than the fresh produce thing, this place is pretty snazzy. They have a lot of vegetarian prepared foods, and fresh bakery products, which is kind of unique. They have a whole aisle of bulk foods, and a reverse osmosis water dispenser thing where you can fill up your own jugs with clean water. They also have a lot of different honeys. Yeah, aside from the perishables, this place rocks pretty hard.
