Absurd review by club planet: This Club planet review located above is so absurd that it must be written by friends of if not the actual owners of some of DC's newest rock clubs.
What DC music fan or reviewer would think it appropriate to tell bold faced lies about one of the best sounding and revered small music venues in the region.

Saying the crowd is mostly male is so absurd it is laughable.

For anyone who has seen a show mixed by their amazing house engineer, the assertion that the club has "sub par sound" is absolute proof that this reviewer
is way off base. Based on how well known the Velvet is for it's great sound this reviewer is so far off base it seems they are intent on damaging this venerable club.

You will not find any club of it's size anywhere that has such a fine sound system and I am sure the bands that play there would be happy to tell you that. Adam Franklin of the band swervedriver states on his web page that Velvet Lounge had the best monitor system on his 2003 tour. If you see a show there and take just a few moments to actually look at their sound system, and if you like, just talk to one of the engineers for a moment, you will understand what an injustice this asinine review submitted by club planet is.

Most clubs of it's size sport tiny ultra low quality equipment and don't have any idea how to use it. The Velvet Lounge however has a complete professional sound system including a large format theater mixing board. In addition to this they have an award winning engineer who has been doing sound since the early 80's.

Also the lounge hosts fantastic local, touring and a surprising amount of international bands due to it's great international reputation. That fact that bands from all over the world choose the lounge is a testament to it's long standing international reputation.

My comment to the secret "club planet" reviewer is: Actually go to the club several times and try asking some of the bands and guests what they think.

Oh and I almost forgot, this place has very entertaining bartenders. All of them are in or have been in high profile DC bands and are pretty fun to hang out and chat with.

There is also some great rock photography and artwork hanging on the walls in the bar area. I remember seeing amazing black and white photos of the Residents, Dead Kennedy's, Excene Cervenka, and a bunch more I just can't remember.
