| About: | This club resembles Frank's Laboratory in The Rocky Horror Picture Show . The large, open space features a bar and a chest-high stage with a rather impressive sound and lighting system. A balcony encircles the room. Patrons drape themselves stylishly over the railing or drink at a second bar upstairs. Nightclub 9:30 features national acts, such as Snuff, Sleater Kinney and Johnny Cash. Parking is available. All ages are welcome at all shows. |

This is an excellent venue to see your favorite artists. Its very affordable and very intimate and you are not restricted by seating assignments. If you ever plan to be up-close and personal with your favorite artist, then this is the place too be. Just one word of advice, get there early to beat the lines and to get yourself a spot right at the front stage.
My favorite DC club. The crowd will vary depending on the performer but it's always pretty mellow, no fights, no worries. Club is 18+ which means college kids often attend, though they don't tend to make up the majority. Bar on the balcony is great and has a great view if you're lucky enough to get a seat. The venue is very intimate. You might pay the same price (or less!) to see a big name performer here versus a huge venue, but the 9:30 club is pretty tiny (maybe +/- 1000 people?) so the view is always good and you feel close to the stage. I think the best view is from the balcony.
Venues...: As far as venues go... this isn't bad but not the best. If the performer is a top act, the wait outside can be too long and crowded inside. Otherwise, the bar is pretty accessible and there's usually a good area or two to cram yourself into for a good view.
