My favorite place on the East Coast to see a concert. Great sound, always general admission, and always a great selection of beer. Metro accessible, cabs are always available post show, bars on U Street close by for pre and post concert beers and Ben's Chili Bowl only a couple blocks away for that post concert munchie chili dog and fries. What's not to like. This place caters to the rock and roll fan. NO riff raff and with exception to the abortion of a concert that was the Justin Timberlake show there a few years back, only true rock bands need apply. What's not to like?
This is hands-down my favorite club I have ever been to. They get big name acts and charge very reasonable prices. The place is small (maybe 1000 people capacity?) so you always have a good view, and it is an intimate setting. Choose the floor to feel right in the middle of the action, the balcony for the best view (and still close to the stage!), or the basement to just chill out. They also get a lot of up-and-coming locals before they become big names (think the roots or john mayer). I have been to several shows at the 9:30 and always had a great time.
Awesome venue, probably attracts the most decent and big name bands for small DC venues. Also all ages. When a local band plays 9:30, that's reaching the top of the DC local band totem pole.
