My wife and I were visiting DC last weekend and we decided to skip the usual places and get a bit of local flair. We spotted Ollie's Trolley from a block a way and made our way in.
Immediately upon entering we were struck by the odor of vomit and beer. It reminded us of New Orleans on Bourbon Street. We counted at least seven air fresheners (the kind you'd find in a public toilet) hanging on the wall where the cash register is. The air fresheners went off while we were waiting in line which added to the overpowering stench. The inside is an absolute dump. The decor is a dingy yellow with stains on the carpet and ceiling -- much like a cheap flea market. There are "antiques" littered throughout the room with hand written signs stating "Do not Touch -- Antique." If they're antiques, why aren't they out of the way so that they're not damaged? (Trust me, most aren't antiques)
It's obvious that the people that work there aren't happy with their jobs. The lady that took our order barely acknowledged us. There was a tip jar next to the cash register! Poor customer service and they have a tip jar -- I think not! The cook was overwhelmed with orders.
It took about 25 minutes to get our food. Once it arrived we were satisfied as it was fresh. The sausage was thin and fairly bland. The pancakes were tasty. Two of the four trash cans were actually facing the wall so that we couldn't toss out our trash. We had to walk to the counter to empty our trays. I assume they do this so that the employees don't have to empty more than two trash cans.
It's a shame because Ollie's is in a prime location along walking paths to the Mall. The place really needs to be totally gutted and replaced.
The best burger in DC. They use 100% organic natural black angus beef.
