Closed.: I always enjoyed going to this restaurant or ordering take-out from them. However, they are now closed.
Wonderful Nepali Food: Nepali restaurants in the United States are a truly rare find (unless you live in Madison, WI). After living in NYC, where there are none, the Mt. Everest was a pleasant surprise. Rather than trying to conform to the standards of Indian restaurants in America, this restaurant is up front about offering the kinds of foods you really would find in Kathmandu: Indian, Nepali and Tibetan. Since the owner of the restaurant is of Newar origin, with its fusion of subcontinent and Tibetan cultures, all the dishes are executed with absolute authenticity and they taste exactly as they do in Nepal. By not holding back with their offerings of chiura (beaten rice), khasiko masu (goat meat), aloo tamako bhoda (fermented bamboo shoots with potatoes and black-eyed peas), and good old-fashioned dal-bhat-tarkari (a full meal of rice, lentils and vegetable curry) they in no way compromise in order to suite perceived (bland) American tastes. The Mt. Everest is in no way upscale or fancy, and if it were, it would be misrepresenting itself. It has a comfortable, casual atmosphere for eating home-cooked food. This is a great place to awaken your memories through your taste buds or to experience a far place you may never have visited.
Good place for a taste of Nepal, Tibet or India: Mount Everest is a modest-looking establishment -- both inside and out. But the food here is always good and seems very authentic. It's a nice change of pace and a great place to try something new and different.
