My wife and I celebrated our anniversary here and we were so happy with the experience. Wonderful oysters (with a lovely mignonette). Seafood chowder and tuna carpaccio were excellent. Sea scallops were the best flavor combination I've ever experienced (with roast pumpkin, apples, chanterelle mushrooms and cream sauce). Plus we arrived late and asked our server to get us out in under an hour (for the theater) and they managed to do it while serving us 5 courses!!! Outstanding flavors, good wine list, romantic setting, good service. We will come again.
Kinkead's in DC is average/good seafood. I can''t give it an excellent, not even a full 4-star good. The food is very fresh, but the flavors lack for me. It's worth a visit if you're a local and have a plethora of restaurants to try for a nice weekday meal. But if you're visiting DC and would like a nice place to go, I'm not sure if I would recommend this restaurant due to the price, food quality and the fact that you get an average atmosphere. There are other restaurants for the price that would give a better experience.
Worth a visit: I enjoyed Kinkead's and thought it just about lived up to the hype. The restaurant somehow felt small and cozy, and I liked that there was plenty of sunshine to help keep the place upbeat and not too stuffy. Also appreciated that they had an elevator, which helped us tremendously with getting grandpa up the stairs. I had a crusted rockfish (or was it cod?) that was pretty good, although maybe just a tad on the salty-end. Contrary to the other reviewers, I felt the portion sizes were not really too small, but on the conservative end of "just right". Service was perfect; they were there when we needed them and completely disappeared from our minds when we didn't. The family concensus was that the food was decent, but maybe not quite worth all the hype; however, everyone definitely enjoyed the overall experience and thought it was worth a special occasion.
