| About: | Rocklands is a serious barbecue place, a standout among the many that have cropped up in Washington recently. The restaurant is set up mainly for carryout, and specializes in smoked ribs served with delicious sauces and spices. Having mastered the art of down-home barbecue, the proprietor has expanded to include other meats to dress up. In addition to the usual pork, barbecued game meats and fish are also available. There is a second location in Arlington. |

I will start out by saying that I grew up in NC. While Rocklands may have been the 1st Barbq experience after moving to DC, it was just down the street, it was never the best. I always was left wanting to drive back home for the real stuff. Urban Barbq in Rockville is by far a better option, despite the drive. Folks claiming Rocklands to be the best are just deluding themselves. Their meat is usually dry with the flavor only on the exterior. Good barbq has the flavor all the way through. Their sauce is fair with the saving grace being the robust selection of hot sauces.
Famous Dave's - really??? I'd save my money for sure because I thought they had the driest meat and the most unoriginal menu. If you want good BBQ in Montgomery County, check out Urban Barbecue in Rockville. PBR on tap to boot!
Thats funny that you talk about Rocklands because my boyfriend and I use to live in Arlington and we use to go to Rocklands there. We always got the pork and chicken bbq with macoroni&cheese...mmmm. I have to say this is the best bbq i've ever had! Now we live in Cali and we we wish there was a Rocklands over here!!

I completely agree. Rocklands is way overrated. Just by chance last month in New York City, I walked into Brother Jimmy's Barbeque, NC style and also a chain. It was the best barbeque I have ever had, but of course a bit of a drive.
