| About: | Makoto promises something different from the typical Japanese restaurant in the US. The atmosphere, customs and service are authentic, and few diners seem to mind that the crowded restaurant also resembles the closeness of the Ginza. More to the point, the food hits the mark with a fixed-price, chef's-choice menu that includes 10 delicate courses that will transport you to Japan. The restaurant is so traditionally Japanese, patrons are asked to leave their shoes at the door. Please note that socks are required. Street parking is available. |

They take reservations but do not honor them. When I got to the restaurant I was told that they could not accommodate my party and that they could not do anything. I had visiting guests and wanted to take them to a good Japanese restaurant during their visit. We traveled all the way to Washington DC, which took us over an hour, and the arrogant server/receptionist did not accommodate us and was not apologetic at all. Very arrogant with no regard for the inconvenience they put other people through. Even if they are a good restaurant, they should have respect for their patrons. DON'T TAKE RESERVATIONS IF YOU CANNOT HONOR THEM!!! It's as simple as that.
No.1: No.1 quality and value, comparing to other big name chef's in other cities
the only thing got to complain is not enough seats, and can't walk-in w/o reservation!
Real Taste of Japan in DC: While traveling in Japan as the guest of a local Japanese household, I was exposed to the vast variety of foods that they eat over there. Unfortunately for us here in the States, finding that kind of food (other then the usual sushi, tempura, and basic saki) is a challenge. Makoto is one of the only places I have found there with the "full dinner" the tastes of Japan are presented in the most glorious and delightful way that is a combination of "Chef's Choice" and your selections. I highly recommen
