| About: | If Georgetown has a local bar, this is it. A neighborhood institution for decades, Mr. Smith's bills itself as the "friendliest saloon in town." Grab a burger or plate of fish and chips in the sunny dining area or out on the terrace. On weekend nights, live R&B bands play upstairs with no cover charge. But the most remarkable entertainment can be found in the basement level after 9p. Here you will find patrons singing along at the piano. |

This review is based solely on my experience on Sun-Tues nights at Mr. Smith's. For the past six years, Spencer Bates has been the regular piano guy on those nights. His song list is up to date and he encourages the crowd to request "anything" regardless of what's on the list. This guy can truly play ANYTHING! He has a fantastic voice and he has fun with the crowd. His piano skills are top-rate, and even more impressive once you learn he's entirely self-taught. The drinks are reasonable, and there's always a cheap beer of the month. While the food is nothing special, it certainly lives up to bar food standards. If you are in Georgetown and up for a night of sing-a-long fun, I'd highly recommend checking out Mr. Smith's!
Nice Place!!!: This place is nice. The food is great ecspecially the fish and chips. The service is always nice but the ambiance is not that great. This is not a place that I would take someone for a romantic dinner or to impress someone. This is more of a place to go when you simply want to eat good food and go.
Favorite Winter Dining Place: I discovered this place by accident. When I was a Freshman in college, a classmate and I were walking in the dead of a January winter and decided to grab a bite. We dipped into this place that looked like a pub. It had a piano bar and everything. We thought we had made a mistake in choosing this place until the waiter asked if we'd like to sit down to eat and led us down some stairs... right into this beautiful glass enclosed terrace, where there was fauna hanging everywhere and fireplaces blazing. We had been led to an indoor Eden.
The atmosphere and ambience is great; whether you're bringing friends or someone that you want to be more than friends, coming to Mr. Smith's out of the cold holds so much promise for a spectacular evening. Even with the busy pub upstairs, the noise doesn't filter down to the dining are The drinks are great and reasonably priced and the food will prepare you for the outside walk. My personal menu favorites? The appetizers. Everytime I go there, I can't resist getting their chili-stuffed potato skins and steak skewers with teriyaki marinade.
