Over the last 20 years, Vah-Chey (that is how it is said Gombah) has been a reliable source of the nice slice. My favorite is the onion and really any white pizze dey maka. One more thing paisano, they maka the pizza inside out. That means that the sauce is ontopa da cheese. Yeah, I know but you will come to like it in time.
One more ting. This place is carry-out only, there is nowhere to sit. They do have some well picked wines and drinks and they are very well priced, especially for DC.
And, their homemade Lasagna is some of the best around. It is made by dems, you take it home and put it in the oven and pretend you made it and everyone says "wow"!.
Vace has the BEST pizza in DC! Whether you have one slice or a whole pizza, you will always want more. This is one of the things I miss most about DC now that I no longer live there. If only the delivered to New England. :)
Best pizza and italian groceries in town -- just beating 2 Amy's & Balducci's -- but I've had it with the service. Slow & surly is a bad mix, especially during the lunch/dinner rush. Worst of all is that grumpy sour puss who has followed me from Cleveland Park to Bethesda like a bad dream!
The worst thing is, it's not rocket science:
1) Add another cashier for lunch and dinner rush hours
2) Put a pizza-only register in effect for rush hour. The only thing worse than popping in for a slice and getting stuck behind the guy ordering bread, mozzarella, sliced prosciutto, mortadella, biscotti, cheese and a sub is to the be that guy and watch 20 poor saps stuck in line behind you.
3) Raise the prices on whole pizzas 10% to pay for the above changes. As noted elsewhere, the pie is already the cheapest in town...
If you must go, try to stop in at 11am or 3pm when the shop is empty.
