| About: | Lucky Bar sticks out like a proverbial sore thumb among the trendier clubs that surround it on 18th Street and Connecticut Avenue. The young professionals who flock to this watering hole are more likely to be wearing jeans than club attire. There is a pool table in the front of the bar and several comfortable booths in which to sit and chat with friends over a bottle or two of beer. Traditional bar food like burgers, nachos and sandwiches is also served. |

This typical D.C. bar is alright. It's got a lot of space, which fills pretty quickly on the usual Friday/Saturday night. The beers were expensive. However, I liked the DJ and the crowd: very social and friendly.
Happy Hour @ Lucky Bar on a Thursday: My co-workers and I wanted a place where we could watch the UNC game...actually that was really the only pre-requisite. If there was a drink special, any kind of drink special then that was fine with us. Im not a big beer drinker, actually I hate it but I also didnt want to shell out big bucks for cocktails. At the suggestion of our very personable, attractive waitress, Maria, I opted for the Cider. It was actually really good, I ended up having three. My other co-workers took full advantage of the $2 Bud special, which also happens to be the ONLY special at Lucky Bar on Thursdays. We did watch the game (UNC lost, bummer) had very good conversation, etc. I give it a 3 overall. They lost points because of the nachos - the serving was huge, no complaints there, but the salsa and the chicken were quite nasty. The other deduction came from the DJ. The clientele consisted of 20-somethings yet we were entertained (or tried to be) with the smooth sounds of Gladys Knight and the Pips, Teena Marie and the like. Towards the end of the night, he picked it up a bit but dont call it old school hip hot night if it really isnt. If you happen to catch yourself on Connecticut Ave. and want to have a reasonably priced drink without a bunch of pretentious onlookers cramping your style I would recommend Lucky Bar, just dont get the nachos, and ask for Maria as your server.
Went back several times: This place is in a great location in Dupont area and pretty close to the Metro. We ended up here on accident, but went back a few more times and were never disapointed. The dress was nice jeans and a cute top with heels. The crowd is mid-twenties with booths, dancing, and pool tables. The music and drinks were great and I highly recommend a visit.
