My friend & I went to the Heart in Hand for drinks and realized they had a pub around the side, "Polo Pub". Our first impression of the staff was that they don't care how they are perceived by customers as the first thing we witnessed upon entering was the bar tender being blatantly rude to his older co-worker who appeared to just simply be asking for help. The next thing we were exposed to was what appeared to be a hushed argument between a different female worker and the bar tender and then escalated to barely controlled tempers and foul language. What finally prompted us to leave was in addition to the bar tender's rudeness, we also witnessed the manager dismissing and putting down the older employee in front of customers. If that's how they treat their employees, we could only imagine how they would've treated us.
Heart in Hand Ruined Our Special Evening
My husband and I recently celebrated our 15th wedding anniversary. Or, I should say, tried to celebrate our anniversary. We held our reception at the Heart in Hand fifteen years ago and it was lovely. Unfortunately, the management has changed since then and when we came back to dine there on the eve of our anniversary, we were not seated even though we had a reservation. Our reservation was for 8:00pm and when we arrived 20 minutes early we were told that the restaurant was âvery busyâ and that our table was not ready. So we went and had a drink at the pub. When we returned at 8pm we were told that the restaurant was filled with private parties and they could not seat us. I reiterated that we had a reservation and their solution was to drape a table cloth over one of the tables in the âpubâ and have us âdineâ there. Let me explain that the pub is not actually part of the restaurant, has a separate entrance and no guest access to the restaurant. It is also small, dark and cramped. The attitude of the manager was âtough luckâ. Obviously, this was not the way I had planned to spend our anniversary evening and I was profoundly disappointed. As Clifton is a very small town and there was no other restaurant we ended up eating at an Outback in another town. At least at the Outback we were treated decently. If you have an occasion planned, do NOT entrust your special day to the Heart in Hand!
Awesome Restaurant: I love this place. The first time I went to this restaurant was as part of a wedding reception. Being vegetarian, they made me a great pasta with veggies. It was the best pasta I have ever had. I went back recently just for the pasta.
The interior of the restaurant has an old restaurant look and is very quiet. The people there are very very friendly and the service is great. Make sure you have sometime when you go to Clifton. There are many historic buildings in Clifton, and it is worth taking a walk through the town and reading the interesting signs in front of the buildings. It was a relaxing evening. Make sure to save some space for desert when you at Heart and Hand!
