My husband loves Mexican food and this family-owned unpretentious restaurant is authentic! Even friends who live in La Plata like to meet us here for an informal but delicious dining experience. The waiters and staff are also very friendly and personable. Best of all, the table chips and salsa are amazing starters. Too bad they get your order to your table so quickly, you have to stop enjoying the dips. Try the shrimp fajitas and the great enchiladas.
Starting to go downhill....: Cerro Grande used to be the best kept secret in southern Maryland. Once the secret got out, however, things seem to be going steadily downhill. At one time you could expect to be greeted as an old friend, eat a good meal, and be out the door in an hour or less. The last few times, however, the staff isn't nearly as friendly and the food isn't nearly as good. The food is still ready quickly, however. The last time I went, I had fajitas. They came out sizzling hot, but the accompanyments left a lot to be desired. There was only a tiny amount of guacamole, and only 3 tortillas for a huge amount of filler. While the fajitas were good, we got charged for the extra tortillas, something that we never used to have to pay for. And the last few times we went to the other Mexican restaurant, the food was far better there than at Cerro Grande. We loved this place when we first started coming, but loyalty can only take you so far. This place better shape up, or we'll be taking our business to Monterey.
fun karaoke: Food was ok, the karoke was fun. Bit too smokey though.
