WARNING! My experience with Southern Memorial Gardens was horrific. Two days after the passing of my husband I went to this cemetery to make arrangements for my husband's burial. When I asked to see the 3 wall crypts that we had purchased in 2002, I was advised that our 3 crypts now belonged to someone else! I was devastated and terrified that my husband had no crypt in which he could be interred. I was there for over 2 hours while an employee worked at finding 3 consecutive crypts. Finally, he found 3 crypts that had belonged to someone else, but when she passed, they could not find her contract and buried her somewhere else in the cemetery. I felt trapped and had no choice but to accept these 3 crypts. Otherwise, my husband would not have been buried on Tuesday. These new owners offered no condolences to me on the day of my husband's burial. The only comment I received was a statement that we've all been victimized. These people are uncaring, arrogant, and, in my opinion are gouging grieving individuals in an attempt to recover as much of their own financial losses. PLEASE, if you "think" that you purchased property at this cemetery, go there, demand to see your contract, and insist that they take you to your property to ensure that it is, in fact, the property that you purchased. Don't wait until you've lost a loved one and possibly have to go through the agony that I experienced due to their negligence. At this time, they are waiting until a loved one has passed and one goes there to utilize their property and too many will be told that their property is unavailable, or that their contract cannot be found. These owners do not care about you or your lost loved one. My experience was that their concern is only about the money they lost and their attempts to recoup as much of it as possible, and that includes gouging grief-stricken individuals. There are no words that adequately describe the horror and fear that I experienced on that day. Please don't let this happen to you.
This Cemetery has improved 500% since the new owners took over. when I buried my Sister I met with them and the staff was not only professional and knowledgeable but they were so compassionate and gave the very best service possible. they accomodated every one of my family's needs. I would like to thank them for helping out time of grief just a little easier. the cemetery looks absolutely beautiful and looks 1000 times better then it ever has. Thank you Southern Memorial.
Rating on Southern Memorial Gardens: My own personal experience with this cemetary has been much less than satisfactory. My grandson was buried there on 1/19/05 (he was 6 mos old). They have YET to plant grass, weed, or do any maintenance on his plot.
