| About: | T.G.I. Friday's, the first American casual dining chain, is a dining experience that has become the favorite pastime of millions since 1965. The first T.G.I. Friday's was located at First Avenue and 63rd Street in New York City and featured red and white stripes, a blue exterior and its name -- T.G.I. Friday's. Inside were wooden floors, Tiffany lamps, bentwood chairs and striped tablecloths. The bar area, with its brass rails and stained glass, contributed to the ambiance. For T.G.I. Friday's interior decor, a full time antique "picker" traveled extensively to auctions and flea markets. Memorabilia had to be authentic and, if possible, unique to the area where the new restaurant would be located. In a Nashville warehouse, this "clutter" was restored before being loaded on a truck bound for the next T.G.I. Friday's opening. The New York T.G.I. Friday's enjoyed an immediate and spectacular success. First year revenues totaled $1 million. This restaurant on Manhattan's Upper East Side had become THE meeting place for single adults. In fact, according to Newsweek and The Saturday Evening Post, the opening of T.G.I. Friday's heralded the dawn of the singles age. By 1972, the restaurant as we know it today was taking everyone by storm. By 1975, there were ten T.G.I. Friday's restaurants in eight states. As of June 30 there are 609 in 52 countries! As the guests have changed, so has Friday's. The company has grown and the guests have matured. Now many of them bring their children with them when they dine at T.G.I Friday's and, T.G.I. Friday's still offers an unsurpassed menu selection of food prepared to perfection, served in a lively, engaging atmosphere. |

It was busy, but we didn't wait long for a table. Our waitress was very nice. She got our drinks immediately. I always need extra ranch for my salad but before I could ask, she asked me if i needed some. The food was great and our service was incredible!
This visit was disgusting in all respects.: I have been going to Friday's for many years, especially the one that closed at 1201 Pa. Ave., NW, in Washington, DC. I find the one at Greenbelt very loud, especially around the bar area, and the service (by the host/hostesses on our last visit) was less than acceptable. The server was fine. I was supposed to meet someone at the restaurant on a Friday evening at 7 pm. I arrived first and said to the hostess on duty that my friend was coming in and described her and gave the hostess her name. My friend did the same thing when she arrived. I ASK: HOW MANY OLDER WOMEN ALONE WOULD BE GOING TO FRIDAY'S AT ANY TIME, ESPECIALLY IN THE EVENING. I arrived around 6:50 pm and was seated after I went through the above routine to the hostess on duty. The minutes were ticking away and by 7:20 pm I decided to get up and go to the restroom area to see if she was seated in another part of the restaurant. I saw no one and returned to my seat. Around 7:30 pm a hostess came over to me and said that my friend was in another part of the restaurant -- as far away as one could be from me. I picked up my glass of ice tea and went to her table. By that time, she was raging angry at the whole scenario and asked to see the manager who was on duty. He was truly very apologetic and offered us free appetizers which we didn't want. Instead he reduced the price of our meal. This is not the usual service at Friday's and, I for one, would rather go to the Friday's in Laurel where it is not so noisy and is more of a "restaurant atmosphere." I also miss the onion rings and baked potatoes that were served previously.
Good Food: This place as some good food as well. I tried the Jack Daniels B-B-Q Chicken dinner & it was delicious. The Vanilla Bean Cheesecake is fantasy on a plate.
