About:Located in Bethesda's trendy downtown, Mustard Seed is a unique clothing store that buys secondhand items with labels ranging from Target brand to Prada. The way it works is that customers set up an appointment and bring in their old clothing, accessories and shoes. If the store believes the items to be in good condition, they will purchase them from the customer. Because of the nature of the buying process, Mustard Seed has a new collection every week. The selection, however, pales in comparison to the incredibly low prices. It is not uncommon to find a pair of designer jeans selling for pocket change. While second-hand clothing is their main staple, Mustard Seed also sells a more expensive and trendier new collection. - Zoe Pagonis

The lady in Mustard seed was quite condescending when going over the clothes I brought over. Of course that is her shop, so she has the right to choose the 'inventory' she wants to buy and determines what's best for sale in her shop. But she could have been more polite to her 'vendors' who provide her with good quality items for a cost of close to nothing (almost all the items I brought had a brand name). The way she judged some of my items was like she's Anna Wintour from Vogue. Also, since they demand everything folded nicely in a shopping bag, I followed. But after she's done, she just roughly stuck everything back to my shopping bag, which caused the rejected items all wrinkled (I don't know how she made my fresh-from-dry-cleaner shirts so wrinkled that I have to iron them again). She should have at least had the courtesy to do what she asked people to do, fold and put them back nicely.

Seriously, with that little money in return and the hassles to sort through my clothes, drop them off the store, I would rather donate my clothes to Salvation Army thrift store to let the profit shared between Salvation Army and the needy buyers. Unless you're pinching pennies, I don't think it's worthy it to sell clothes to them. I won't go back that store ever again.

I live up the street so I visit often. Once in awhile you find good clothes at a good price, but alot of it is overpriced and you really have to hit it at the right time, but that's not any different than most consignment places.

I agree that the staff is very rude. I have sold clothes back a few times and they are snobby and will lift their noses frequently. They are just not friendly types in general that work there. I find this to be strange since their business relies on people selling clothes. Sure others have had this experience.

This store is a very selective thrift shop that caters to teens and young adults, especially those of the hipster/indie crowd. Despite its cute name and great looks, its really not a good place to go if you are looking for a wide selection and great deals.
The store is visually very appealing, and the girl at the counter when I went was very nice.

They have some mid-range labels at low prices, but they aren't very low by consignment/thrift store standards. Also, their selection of actual thrift items is slim. When I went I only found 2 used items that were worth the price.

And they focus too much attention on new peices that sell at high prices. Like, $60-$80 kind of high. Yeah, ick.

As a cute, trendy store, they succeed. But as a thrift shop, they don't do very well. I don't know how they advertise themselves, but in my opinion they should remove thrift and consignment from any of their initial store descriptions. It will just give people false hopes.

This really isn't a bad place to go, if you have money to spend. There's a great chance that you'll find a cool jacket or sweet shoes... if you are wiling to fork over the dough or go multiple times to find those items at lower prices.
