I recently went into this store because I had heard some good things about it. I was looking for some books for my son and some birthday presents for friends. I walked in the store and wasn't greeted or helped (because the lady was on the phone) during my 15 minute stay. While I was in there I listened to the owner (unbeknownst to me) on the phone talking about her son, colleges, TA position, etc.... I was the only person in the store until the last 5 minutes when another lady and her children walked in (they weren't greeted or helped either). I was waiting until the lady got off the phone to ask her a question but the call kept on going on and on. I thought she might just say hold on, I'll be right there, do you have any questions, etc. So I left the store and thought I would call the store and ask the owner to call me back. So when I called she didn't answer so I left a message. She called back within 5 minutes and said SHE was the owner. I told her how disappointed I was and how I had heard good things about the store. And also told her that she shouldn't treat customers that way. She was very combative and defensive saying "you were greeted! this is a phone conversation I needed to have, I apologized what else do you want me to say, I didn't treat you anyway, you sound like you are going to cry, we are known for our customer service, can I get a word in - can I speak, you didn't look like you were interested in anything" I was shocked that she was talking this way. Number 1 - I probably sounded like I was crying b/c I hate confrontation and rarely do it, Number 2 - How do you look or not look interested? I kept waiting and waiting b/c I thought she might get off the phone and eventually come over to help. Number 3 - "I didn't treat you anyway" - what? - It was your lack of treatment. Number 4 - Great customer service?? Really? I'm sure they do at times. But not this time. Especially not from the OWNER. I don't think I can ever go back. Not the way I was treated in the store and ESPECIALLY not the way I was treated on the phone. The owner will hopefully sit back and think about this and how she can improve in the future. BTW - They don't have a great selection of books and spotty with the toys. Better selection at Tugooh Toys in Bethesda, Child's Play in DC/CC, Politics and Prose in DC.
