If you give this place a bad review, then you must have been a horrid customer. The beer is very well crafted and there's usually something new to try. The food is quite tasteful (Calamari is good) I travel all over the world and have a local customer here so I stop in whenever I can. I love stopping into micro-brews (even bad ones) and this one is definitely NOT on the bad list. Excellent place to catch a game or to just be social with friends.
Wow. I've never met a more hostile bartender than the one at Rock Bottom. I will NEVER, EVER return there. My chicken sandwich tasted like fish. It was not a slight fishy taste, it really tasted like they cooked it on the same grill as the tuna and made no effort to clean the tuna off the grill before they cooked the chicken. The biggest downside, though, was the service, which was rude to the point of provocing confrontation. I've been going to bars for 15 years, and I've never experienced anything like this. I also consciously make an effort to be polite to everyone I deal with, so I really don't think I brought this on. Another member in my party had the same reactions and thoughts. There are lots of other good places in Bethesda, my recommendation is to STAY AWAY.
A last resort is still a resort nonetheless: While I'm out looking for some other bar in this area, I keep forgetting that this place is still among the elites in B-town. And while it's not on my hot list, I'll pop in from time to time. What a brewery provides is new experiences. When you get tired of the same "Budweiser and a shot of whiskey" event, try this place. The Raccoon Red ale is great. It has a unique and lively flavor. I would only suggest this place if you enjoy the actual taste and texture of beer. Otherwise, stay away. The food is good too, but it's the usual bar fare. Roomy, spacious and not overcrowded, this place is pretty good.
