Company Information: Considered one of the best Japanese restaurants in suburban Maryland, Tako Grill serves up sushi and traditional Japanese dishes all at bargain prices. Artfully prepared sushi and sashimi are highlights. The house specialty is grilled pieces of fish and vegetables called robatayaki . Dishes such as asparagus in ginger sauce, potatoes in butter or grilled squid make a wonderful appetizer or a light lunch. Customary Japanese entrees are also quite good here. Teriyaki chicken, beef and salmon are all offered on the regular menu, but be sure to look at the daily specials for other fresh fish served teriyaki style.

I have far too many "miles" on my Tako Grill "frequent eater" card - But I will happily add more, as often as I can. The place is hard to beat in quality, price, ambiance, friendliness, service - and an unmatched selection of sakes. Go to their Sake Bar for the happy hour - good beers and drinks, with several delicious appetizers at a very good price. I often do that while I am waiting for my take-out orders. You can get better sushi and sashimi for over a hundred dollars at several local elite places, but if you want good quality at an affordable price, go to Tako Grill.
The best Japanese restaurant in the DC area. Has unbelievable variety and it is not the most expensive places around. If you want to impress a date, take him or her here. Be warned that on weekends it can get crowded so come early.
The menu here is impressively extensive, varied, and it has items that you only see in more authentic, catering to the native Japanese crowd kind of Japanese places. So despite my initial skepticism of not having heard any good things about the place nor even heard of the place (I've eaten at pretty much all the good sushi places in the DC metro area, and I eat sashimi/sushi about 30-50 times every year), my expectations shot up. But sadly, the nigiri and sashimi here were depressingly average at best. I almost spit out the tuna, the salmon roe was slightly above average, and even the salmon wasn't very good nor fresh. The yellow tail wasn't too fresh either. The yellowtail was about average for the price range. But overall, at $2.50 to $4.50 per one piece of nigiri, I would have expected much better quality (the quality was comparable to food court sushi). The service was totally fine, it was quick and attentive.
But in short, I would recommend the place only for sushi novices who live around the area and don't want to travel far (or for people who don't have a developed palate for different grades of sashimi quality).
