I have dined at Roy's Place a few times, and it was great. It has been quite a while sence I have been there. We went there for a birthday celebration last Friday. I can't tell you how dissapointed we all were. Seriously, the breaded mushrooms were frozen in the middle. Our orders got all screwed up. Burgers were dry and cold. And the sandwiches had very little meat to them. My bread was stale and the meat was fatty. I will never go there again. Subway makes better sandwiches!
Roy must be turning over in his grave!
We just moved to old town gaithersburg and heard of Roy's, we love older establishments that are a staple of the community. We went in with such great hopes of having a fantastic meal at a reasonable price.... we were very dissapointed. The server was very kind and attentive but that's about all that we enjoyed. The menu was about 15 pages long, each sandwich (which there are hundreds) all required some quirky story that had to relate to the name, with very little description of the sandwiches. A PR disaster waiting to explode! After 15 minutes agonizing about which sandwich to choose, I finally went with a Hot sausage sandwich with some sort of cheese and peppers. The appetizers arrived cold and obviously were cooked in a microwave. After 20 minutes of waiting for our sandwich we realized that the a/c had been pushed up to full blast and we all were freezing our rears off. We kindly asked our server to let someone know that we were all too cold and we heard several other customers comment on how they too were cold. I was told by my server" mam I really don't have any control over that"..... great! My sandwich showed up and it looked like my 2 year old made it. It was horrible. I just paid almost $10 for a sandwich with a quarter of kielbasa on a piece of toast with no doubt a piece of kraft cheese melted on the top. It was horrible and a waste of money. Save your money and go visit another restaurant!
An excellent, homespun, eclectic, locally-owned restaurant that takes us back to an era before chains dominated the sandwich scene. Between the menu with some 200 sandwich choices and the bar, this is a curiosity shoppe of food and drink. You will find good values, choices you have never seen before and an opportunity for family dining, for lunch or dinner. Whether you want to stay safe with a thick juicy hamburger, or try something more wild or exotic, you will be pleased with the outcome.
