Athens Grill

The food is really good. However not better than Ambrosia Grill. Ambrosia is also better priced.

In July I have attended the Washingtonian Magazine Charity Benefit event of 2008. One hundred top restaurants participated at this event. I was going around trying the different foods. I went to the open bar and got in line to get a drink as I was looking around I have noticed a long line at one of the corner tables. I got my drink and I proceed towards the booth with the long line, waiting to approach the table to see want it was all about. Oh! My mouth dropped what a display! The table was decorated with fresh yellow roses and baby’s breath and blue glass bottles of their house dressing separating the beautiful food platters which were decorated with fresh yellow baby roses and tiny fresh rosemary branches. I was offered a plate with small spinach pies, feta pies, stuffed grape leaves, aromatic ouzo meatballs and small vine tomatoes stuffed with gyro meat and topped with creamy tzatziki sauce. I moved a side and I was eating like I had never seen food before because the taste of those Greek specialties was unbelievable, but I was not the only one raving about the food, the line was getting longer as the crowd was going back for second and third serving, all you could hear was people raving, "Oh! It's so good, so good. Where is your restaurant? Where are you located?". The charming employees with a big smile and courteous manners were replying "Athens Grill in Gaithersburg Maryland the Original. Please come to the restaurant we will be honored if you would visit us". Well last week I took a group of friends to have dinner at Athens Grill, what a treat it was. The food at this place is unbelievable; the portions are huge and reasonably priced. The dessert; incredibly the best baklava ever and the house specialty "peach melba" is unique. I urge you to visit Athens Grill if you want authentic excellent Greek food no other restaurant can compare or compete with this one. I wish I found this place sooner!: I stumbled upon this restraurant by chance while looking for a hair salon. The restraunt has plenty of parking and offers authentic greek food. Athens Grill's menu is filled with a long list of authentic greek dishes such as chicken souvlaki, chicken kabobs, gyros, beef souvlaki, beef kabobs, and lamb kabobs. This restraunt even has homemade desserts to satisfy every sweet tooth such as baklava, peach melba and apple puff pastries. I recommend this place to anyone who loves homemade greek food. The service really makes this place special, it is family owned and they made me feel like one of their own. All the food is made to order, and if you happen to dine in, you can enjoy the greek music and ambiance!
