Dawn Crafton Dance Center

Around 40 years ago, Dawn Crafton opened her dance studio in Rockville, MD's suburb of Aspen Hill, where I grew up. I can remember her opening being the most exciting event that happened in our close-knit neighborhood. Most of us who were only neighborhood children, had no idea her mother, Miriam Sellers, had been a Rockette, or that Dawn & her sisters grew up practically living in the world of dance teaching & performance art.

When we, her 1st students, signed up for classes, there was no way to know that Dawn Crafton was going to do more than teach us to be dancers for life, who could even land jobs on Broadway; but, that she'd also be the most child-centered role model for us.

If you are searching for a school where you & your child will learn self-discipline, gain confidence, become part of a team in classes & be able to use such skills for future events you may not even imagine yourself doing at this time--such as making a professonal public presentation--these are the essential & most basic arts that Dawn Crafton & her well experienced team of teachers know how to coach.

Dawn Crafton's dance lines (The Dawn Crafton Dancers) have long been noted in the "Book of Tap," for example, across from the page about Gene Kelly! Dancing as a student of Dawn Crafton's is the single best holistic learning experience I had during my childhood & youth.

Crafton's dance studio has expanded so much since the late 1960's that it's now in Gaithersburg. I do not know of a better performance art center in the DC metro area. When you read this review, please know that I am one of thousands (!) of Dawn's students who would likely offer quite similar praise.
