Thornton is fertile ground. It provides the Light and nurture an adolescent requires. The kids grow, flourish, blossom. It is a wonderful place‎

vI think Thornton is a very nice place. It's safe. But sometimes it's a bit too safe -- you can get in trouble for saying very simple things, like "shut up". And I'd like it if it were a bit bigger. But the thing I really like is that the teachers help the kids with all different learning styles that apply to them. And also it doesn't give too much homework, but it gives enough.

You can go outside for lunch, which I really like. And the teachers are really nice -- sometimes! But overall I think it's a really good school.

Thornton Friends has two locations in different Silver Spring neighborhoods -- an Upper School (high school) in Colesville and a Middle School in Hillandale. Both schools are "small" -- the average class size is nine students! The principals are experienced and the teachers are dedicated. The core academics are covered well -- from writing and math to art and music. Our son attends Thornton and it has been the best school experience he's had. I really encourage you to visit, especially if you've never seen a "small school" and the nurturing environment it can offer.
