Let's stop calling them "Volunteers". Any organization that sends out bills to people they come in contact with, as a result of responding to an accident (and then applying a bandaid) is not volunteer. The word I believe is mercenary. These are actual Ambulance Chasers, except they happen to be driving the ambulance. When I receive a letter from them asking for a donation, and recommending an amount to donate, these are not volunteers. I should be thankful that they are there to do the job they do unlike some of the unscrupulous operators we used to hear about in the midwest - the ones that show up at the fire just to make sure the neighbor who pays for service doesn't have his property burn to the ground. But if they feel they must resort to these kinds of tactics to raise money, it's time the Volunteer Fire Company became a regular municipal fire company with a budget. I grew up in a town of 16,000 people in Western New York. We had a city fire department. I don't see what's so special about Bel Air that they can afford NOT to have a municipal fire and EMS when their population is so much larger.
They rock!: BAVFC is always a strong company when you need them to be.
