| About: | Hospital Philosophy: At Kindness Animal Hospital, we are dedicated to the maintenance of good health for your pet. We strive to provide the highest quality animal health facility to serve your pet's every health care need. We place a priority on the doctor-client relationship, and feel that this special partnership serves your pet best. We also believe that preventative medicine is the best medicine.A Brief History of Kindness: Kindness Animal Hospital was founded in 1956, making it one of the two oldest existing veterinary hospitals in Montgomery County. The hospital was originally located on Georgia Avenue just south of University Boulevard. In 1971, Kindness relocated to its current building at the corner or University Boulevard and Amherst Avenue. Over the years at this new location, many errant cars have found their way into the hospital's flower bed; in the 1990s, we even had one come through our waiting room window! The county has since erected a barrier to prevent such inappropriate parking. For such an established practice, Kindess has had little doctor turnover. Dr. Carl W. Smith founded the hospital in 1956 and practiced here until retirement in 1982. Dr. Stuart M. King practiced here from 1967 to 1993. Dr. Marc S. Katz joined the practice in 1978 and became a partner 4 years later. Dr. Jeff Zolkiewicz joined the hospital in 1994 and became a partner 5 years later. In June 2007, Dr. Zolkiewicz became the owner of the practice.Affiliations: Kindness is a member of the American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA), and undergoes periodic inspections to maintain its member status. The doctors at kindness are also affiliated with the American Veterinary Medical Association, Maryland Veterinary Medical Association and Greater Baltimore Veterinary Medical Assocition. We work with the Montgomery County Humane Society, the Friends of Montgomery County Animals, and several other rescue organizations to help maintain the health of stray and shelter animals. We are new to the area and started off at the Chevy Chase Vet--NOT a good experience! I was "shopping" for a new vet and decided to try Kindness Animal Hospital. It has been a wonderful experience. Dr. Neunzig is wonderful in taking time to explain our dogs care (received/needed). She calls us when she receives lab results. The prices are reasonable and they have a convenient on-line pharmacy. The staff are friendly and our dog enjoys his visits. This is a great practice and definitely worth trying if new to the area or switching over to if you're not happy with the care of your current vet. (We have a large dog with kidney disease.)
I really like Kindness Animal Hospital. I was new to the area last year and I really worried about finding a vet for my cocker spaniel. I need not have worried. I talked to some of my new neighbors and they all took their pets to Kindness and loved them, so I gave it a try. I was more than pleased. My cocker has bad ears and skin as they all seem to, and the Doctor took time to review my old records and made some new suggestions which turned out to be the right suggestions. His ears have been better ever since. The doctors there even recommended a veterinary dermatologist which I thought was nice, they didn't try to take my money but not help my pet. I have been back many times since and I find their prices to be in line with the area. I'm a big believer in "you get what you pay for" and I never think I am being overcharged, in fact I think I'm getting a great deal.
I have seen 2 of the vets there and I have liked them both. I have never been kept waiting for more than 10 minutes. Phone calls are always returned. I am really happy with the quality veterinary service I get at Kindness.
I have been taking my diabetic cat to Kindness for most of her care over the last year and have been happy with the expertise of all four of the vets in this group practice that have consulted with me as we struggled to manage her disease and its complications. They have all gone the extra mile in my cat's case.
The only complaint I have is about the business end of the practice. I have never, ever been able to pick up my pet or drop her off without waiting 30 minutes, 1 hour, 2 hours.... and when you go in for a routine annual "checkup" they bill you for a very expensive battery of diagnostic tests, which they don't disclose until you see the bill. (If you call them and ask the price for an annual checkup, they will only mention the cost of the doctor's time. Talk about sticker shock!)
